I really like RLJ, thinking of Pop Pop, Traffic from Paradise or It´s like this, but this record is of special lo-fi sound which they are obviously proud of (why then make a high resolution SACD out of that junk?)and the songs are of a quality that each averaged talented teenage songwriter can deliver. Not very much inspired by the god they sing of 13 songs long. I could´nt listen to that stuff twice. Very disapointing!

Here's an off-the-wall project. Rickie Lee Jones took the writings of a friend about Jesus and decided to reshape them into here own lyrics and music. On first impression, the words are somewhat hit and miss, but the music has a raw, organic flavor to it, mostly hard rock, but also some slower more meditative tunes. The surrounds nicely enhance the mix, with background vocals occasionally sprouting in the rear along with selected quitar parts. The surrounds are one piece with the raw, driving instrumentation mostly in evidence here. They flavor the music without calling attention to themselves. I call this one a winner.

Im totally in agreement with brusers review and the stereo version is a stunner sonically.(Warts and all acuratly recorded from from the sessions give it a very live/studio feel) Ironic that probably Dr Selbys longest review is so way out and more people found it helpful..Perhaps he should have listened to it all the way thru and perhaps a second time and also read the interesting liner notes properly.
The 2 recording venues are clearly shown up as the singer sounds as though she had a cold at one of the studios.(poorer mic) Their are some out standing tracks especially the beginning and end and some weird playing/singing Donkey Ride.Very reminiscent of Sheryl Crowe Globe sessions in parts and the Rolling Stones on another.A bluesey instramental Road to Emmaus offers some relief from the religous theme if thats not your bag.My copy was from a live gig of hers and is a numbered Limited edition but I would be suprised if many people would be willing to try out this experimental music which is not representetive of her.The DVD was NTSC and the very different tracks are in MP3 which is a bit weird
and their are a few videos.
Definitely one I will keep.
