I'm not a rock guy, but a really well-done SACD of the Doors' debut album would be very tempting. I gather the master tape has bit the dust through age and overuse, however....

I've admired Doug Sax's work in the past, for example on APO's SACD reissue of Bill Evans' Moonbeams.

I have the DVD~As and the debut album really has NO discrete info.....preferred playing it in stereo on my Meridian 808.

When I first saw the 70mm 6 track magnetic version of 'Apocolypse Now' in Manhattan in the 70's, the version of 'The End' was BEYOND brilliant with authentic deep bass and astounding clarity of vocals. Have no idea who mixed it or what master they utilized but that particular version always remains entrenched in my mind as to what the entire album could've sounded like when the original masters were still INTACT!

Cool news. Now, all six discs = 180.00, and the box set is 280.00? Would hope there's some cool stuff for the extra Benjamin there.

Make sure you also buy Analogue Productions' forthcoming Norah Jones set, too-- she'll soothe you and put you to sleep after all that demented Doors music gets you worked up.

And to think that the relatively elaborate Doors Perception boxed set consisting of DVD~As and RBCDs cost me roughly $60......for six albums (that's 12 discs).

The Doors DVD-Audios sound excellent on my system, I wonder how much better the AP SACDs will sound.

Mine, too. If I didn't have the Perception set I would probably jump on the SACDs. Be curious to read a comparison of the two.

Normally they are DVD-As but I know that some ebay sellers made fake boxes in which the DVDs were only DVD-Vs ... So if you bought your box on ebay or even with some third part sellers from Amazon, you may have been scammed ...
