I popped into town to see if I could buy the Zappa BDV in a shop yesterday, but both stores (HMV and FOPP: owned by HMV) said they'd sold out - sold out of the TWO copies they each received!

I understand Zappa isn't as popular as XXX XXXX boy/girl band, but still, shops need customers to survive and surely there are more than five Zappa fans in Glasgow; and besides, imo, this release should have been front door material. Oh well: there's always the internet...

Where I live, Derek, ALL the local record stores within a 10-15 mile radius have shuttered their doors, so, unless I venture into Manhattan (35 miles away but with traffic...well, you get the picture), I rely solely now on the internet. Amazon had a pre~order on the Zappa BD~V for $15 but I hesitated thinking it might go down even further. Don't expect stellar video quality and the engineer who restored all the elements had a hell of a time synching up the audio portion as a badly timed technical glitch (film/audio failed to sync) precluded the concert from ever being released to theaters. Naturally, in the digital age such restorations are possible (and blu.ray.com did say the LPCM uncompressed stereo track is excellent and the DD 5.1 sacrifices bass but does open the soundstage........so at least one has a choice.

That's sad to hear Ralph about music shop closures. I rarely take a trip into town because the music I want isn't always available in store and besides, SACDs are practically extinct in the city centre. I don't mind paying a tad more when buy from physical shops, but HMV rarely cater for my tastes and when they do, they usually want a lot more than e-prices - viva le internet !!!

It looks like the DVD and BDV editions come with a CD; I approve of that as it means I can rip the CD for listening in the kitchen or on the move and rip the BDV for the BIG show :)

Splendid, Brian. And will "Sittin' In" be multichannel?

Sittin' In wasn't recorded in Quad. So a Multichannel version is very unlikely.

No, it was NOT recorded in QUAD but DID have an SQ Vinyl release in Japan.......which I suppose doesn't count......unless it was a domestic release like L&M's first album, Native Sons and Full Sail.

Thank you for your response, Brian.

Addenda: I just read the post over at QQ that Sittin' In's 'supposed' Japanese SQ Vinyl release was stereo and should be removed from the Quadraphonic data base. Finally, a definitive answer.

BTW, Brian, VERY few albums were recorded with QUAD in mind in the early to late 70's. One of my favorites remains Beaver & Krause's marvelous Gandharva (on the Warner Brothers label)....the second side (extraordinarily beautiful) of which was recorded in San Francisco's Grace Cathedral with the participation of Bud Shank and Gerry Mulligan http://www.allmusic.com/album/gandharva-mw0000703262

This would certainly be a coup for an Audio Fidelity QUAD SACD release but of course it wouldn't set any sales records.

Gandharva was ONLY released as a Japanese SQ Vinyl disc. It was never released domestically (US) as a CD~4 Quadradisc, the format which Warners US was utilizing in the early to mid 70's.

FREDBLUE (Adam) if you can find this one, it will be a coup and a half!

Absolutely love the new MFSL's The Allman Brothers Band, Live At Fillmore East.

As one of my favorite albums of all time, and for millions of others, with a quality company like MFSL's whats not to like.

I have all versions including the 5.1 3 disc BD~A. I have to remain a purist with this performance and the stereo is just to ingrained in my DNA to like anything but the stereo.

I posted a little comment on the sister site.

86 decibels, Markie: Sounds like The Allman Brothers WERE live at Silicon Valley WEST!

Yes, MoFi does a great job with reissues.......just wish they were quicker on the draw instead of making us wait years before releasing SACD product.

Had dinner with my investor the other night and he recalled seeing that historic concert (at the Fillmore East) live ..... as well as seeing Hendrix several times. LUCKY HIM!

Have you pre~ordered the surround version of Idlewild South yet? 3CD/Blu Ray box set out December 4th! Hint: AmazonUK (with VAT removed) has the best deal....about $30 cheaper than AmazonUS.

NOT exactly Rock 'n Roll (not even close) but I am always looking around for hi res New Age music so I took a chance and ordered this: http://www.hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=10885

For what it's worth.....10 5 star reviews @ AmazonUS.

From the Blue Coast Records Label. Also available as DSD/Flac downloads from the Blue Coast Label Site.

Will post my impressions when I receive it.

Sweet Dreams are made of this! And yeah, how about some Eurythmics on SACD or some of Annie Lennox's solo albums?

I have a few recordings by Fiona Joy. Not really New Age, she's a piano player, very good one at that. Not familiar with this disc though.

hoop, it was her first solo project for Blue Coast Records. Fiona Joy (without the surname Hawkins) threw me off initially. I should have it by next week. Will post my impressions. Complete sample tracks are available at the Blue Coast Records website. I cannot post a link as it is also a vendor site.
