Don't listen to Claude. This is a fine sounding high resolution analog to DSD recording. Natural, spacious tones, good imaging. Most of all, no CD 'digititis' due to brick-wall filtering. Just a fine all around, enjoyable presentation. |

DSD-wide recording here. I suppose this still counts as 'pure' DSD. Telarc seems to think so. The sound here has the typical DSD-wide 'veil'. I will simply defer to what Polly Nomial has already said.
This is a SUPERB disc. I dare say a Reference Level performance and Reference Recording for all other Reference Recordings. This is for me THE example SACD that fulfills the promise of the medium. As good as DSD64 gets.

As to why one reviewer thought the treble should be more 'brilliant and airy'...
this is a Michael Bishop production. Mr. Bishop believes in conversion of DSD to analog for mixing then re-digitizing as DSD. Therefore, there are multiple, and many would argue, unneeded conversions during production. ... more |

Of my 1000 plus SACD's, this one is top 10 and is there to stay! Delightful music, and I will echo that this is extremely well recorded. A fine example of the pinnacle of analog recording. Which may have been the pinnacle of recorded sound, period... analog recording, that is.
