Rolling Stones: Exile on Main St.      (4 of 4 found this review helpful)

Definitely better than the Redbook releases, the difference is noticeable! Finally we can listen to this album with good presence, depth, clarity and frequency extension. Sure, it never was a particularly "hi-fi" recording (most takes were done in Richards' villa in France, not in a professional ... more

A bit too much tape hiss, but dynamics are excellent and the performances are top notch.
Queen: A Night at the Opera      (6 of 6 found this review helpful)

Probably the best Queen album, or one of the 2-3 best ones (and I'm not a Queen fan, but I can't avoid saying it's a very good album). What impresses me particularly about this new release, compared to the standard CD, is the presence and weight of the drums. No, they are not overblown or boomy, ... more
Velvet Underground & Nico: The Velvet Underground & Nico      (5 of 7 found this review helpful)

No one reviewed this one yet, so I will give my contribution. As good as the SHM-SACD is, and as painstakingly as the DSD conversion was done, the original recording can't exactly be described as hi-fi, not by a long shot. So, sometimes it can sound dirty. At times it can sound distorted and ... more

Got my copy today! Did anyone else notice a couple of very small glitches in the SACD layer? Haven't listened to the traditional Redbook layer, though... ... more

I have a 1930, and while a decent machine at a VERY fair price, I have heard far better from other players. You won't hear that much difference between SACD and ordinary Redbook on a 1930. Planning to upgrade soon... ... more
Dire Straits "Making Movies" and "Communique" SHM-SACDs are BAD!

For comparison, I must say that the S/T was (for my taste) a 4.5/5 (spoiled only by excessive tape hiss) and Love Over Gold was a 4/5. ... more
Dire Straits "Making Movies" and "Communique" SHM-SACDs are BAD!

Listening to Communiquè now... Well, even better than Making Movies! Same great dynamics, clarity and separation as the self titled album and Love Over Gold, without the tape hiss. A great version... Drums have presence and weight without getting boomy (they are full, natural, but DRY), guitars are crystal clean, voice is warm... what more could ... more
