Nine Inch Nails: The Downward Spiral      (7 of 7 found this review helpful)

This album is a natural for multichannel, and I knew that Trent would impress with the MC mix. The only question in my mind was whether the hi-rez could improve the digital nature of the recording. As one of the the reviewers from amazon.com points out, doubters need only listen to the bass drum on ... more
Los Angeles Guitar Quartet: Guitar Heroes        (4 of 4 found this review helpful)

When I heard that the 4.0 surround mix of this sacd had a guitarist in each speaker, I envisioned some missing scene from a Robert Rodriguez film where 4 mariachis meet at the cross-roads and the listener is caught in the cross-fire. Thankfully, this sacd is not like that, and there is very little ... more
Vince Guaraldi Trio: A Charlie Brown Christmas    (1 of 1 found this review helpful)

I second everything the previous reviewer wrote. All I can add is that the presence of the instruments is so good, if you close your eyes you just might see Snoopy doing his dance in the middle of the room.

I was dubious as to whether this sacd would be worth the extra money, as the Universal website showed a low bit rate for the DVDa, which I assumed would mean a low bit rate PCM master. My initial impression on the stereo sacd confirmed my doubt. However, one listen to the multichannel layer and I ... more

My sub is only connected to the LFE channel from my receiver and I don't get any sub on this disc. That's probably a ... more

Try these: Classic discs: 1) Bill Evans Trio -- Sunday at the Village Vanguard (Analogue Productions hybrid stereo) -- this one will set you back $20+, but in terms of both sonics and music, I vouch that it's worth every cent. This is piano, bass, and drums -- jazz in perhaps its most fundamental form, which is perfect for getting a feel of ... more

Thanks Tjobbe. Sounds good. Now I just have to wait for the dollar to rise against he euro -- amazon.de wants almost as much to ship the cd to the states as they want for the cd itself. If you hear the MC mix, I'd be interested to know if it's "adventurous" or not. ... more
