Nine Inch Nails: The Downward Spiral      (7 of 7 found this review helpful)

This album is a natural for multichannel, and I knew that Trent would impress with the MC mix. The only question in my mind was whether the hi-rez could improve the digital nature of the recording. As one of the the reviewers from amazon.com points out, doubters need only listen to the bass drum on ... more
Los Angeles Guitar Quartet: Guitar Heroes        (4 of 4 found this review helpful)

When I heard that the 4.0 surround mix of this sacd had a guitarist in each speaker, I envisioned some missing scene from a Robert Rodriguez film where 4 mariachis meet at the cross-roads and the listener is caught in the cross-fire. Thankfully, this sacd is not like that, and there is very little ... more
Vince Guaraldi Trio: A Charlie Brown Christmas    (1 of 1 found this review helpful)

I second everything the previous reviewer wrote. All I can add is that the presence of the instruments is so good, if you close your eyes you just might see Snoopy doing his dance in the middle of the room.

My sub is only connected to the LFE channel from my receiver and I don't get any sub on this disc. That's probably a ... more

I found SACD was a great way for me to get into classical music as it narrowed down the offerings to a manageable selection. If you like jazz, I'd suggest perhaps starting with some solo piano. I was going to recommend some of my favorites like Uchida's Schubert disc or Pollini's Chopin but I just checked the offerings and WOW, not only are they ... more

wow...I guess that title is hard to find...I don't have it myself, so I can't say if it's worth $50, but I think that disc does not have Jaco... if you're interested in MC, I'd also suggest Hiromi on Telarc...I can vouch for Brain and Spiral, and I hear the latest is good too. If you like rock music, the one I'd recommend first is the ... more
