Chet Baker: In New York  (3 of 3 found this review helpful)

I finally get the chance to own Chet Baker on shm sacd and the results are very excellent indeed. As a recorded venue its a great jazz album. The synergy and musicianship is more than top notch. I do not own the original sacd from years ago but the reviews are somewhat mixed. This new Shm Sacd is ... more

A CLASSIC RECORDING AND ALBUM. Its truly sad to see the Shm Sacd program gone. I feel that their sacd's were the very best in sound quality. The sound quality the mastering tech's achieved was extra special. The majority of the Shm Sacd's were truly singular in the sound department. Its something ... more

Mobile Fidelity is set to release a whole whack of new sacd releases. This classic gem from the early 70's is one of them. I found this to be a rather good release from Mofi. Its a solid mastering job that is probably as good as could be hoped for. It seems that Mofi achieved a cohesive mix that ... more

So many SHm Sacd's are now out of print. This is one of them.... unfortunately. And when things go out of print they get sold for outrageous prices. Bill Evans wanted a change from his famous trio work in 1962 so he got together some of the best jazz people around to create this rather unique ... more

I own many sacd's and gold cd's mastered by Steve Hoffman but this is the first sacd that I am disappointed with. Its always difficult to review a classic album from the past when so many listeners have their own opinions of what constitutes good sound for that particular title. My review is not ... more

Hi Larrymcl. I have both the Mofi sacd and the dvd audio. Although I almost always like the sacd better..not so with this comparison. Mofi tends to master flat and some of the sacd sounds this way. The Dvd Audio is mixed beautifully and sounds awesome. If you have a way to Dvd Audio I highly recommend thtis version. Cheers, Rembrandt ... more

Gentleman. If any of you are looking for the best sacd version of Kind Of Blue I would seriously recommend the two channel Japanese version from 1999. This version also includes the additional alternate track of track 5. 0ddly the original American sacd was mastered from the original tapes as is the Japanese version. However the U.S. sacd is so ... more

Hi. I'm glad you feel the new versions are fantastic as well. They are better in every category of levels. I still respect Mr. Sax's versions but not as much. Oddly I have read reviews on other sites where listeners were less than happy with the results which made me wonder why that would be. It was mentioned that Sax did use the original ... more

Howdy. I own both the original Analogue Production version and the shm-sacd's. Doug Sax did a very good job with the earlier versions but the new Universal Japan sacd's are really exceptional. Not just because they are drier but because of the newer hardware they are using. Sax had the original master's to transfer from but the Japanese used ... more
