The Band: Cahoots        (3 of 4 found this review helpful)

This has always been somewhat under-rated since its release and this new MoFi SACD has to be the best it's ever sounded! Detail never even imagined is present here and the sonic balance is just about perfect. Warm, punchy and open, the mix really opens up with this release. I've listened to this ... more

A considerable leap up from the harsh, blaring Blue Note SACD. This one is balanced with good depth and a much warmer, more natural sonic signature if, like most of the AP Blue Notes, rather laid back and low-level. All things considered, this is the definitive digital rendering of this great early ... more
Jackie McLean: Capuchin Swing        (2 of 3 found this review helpful)

This has got to be one of Rudy's poorest efforts. Despite the excellence of the music, this SACD (and earlier RBCD issues) is not good at all. Listen to the weird, off-mic "reverb" on the opening track and what sounds like really clumsy gain-riding. Add to that a rather harsh, disembodied stereo ... more
Mahler: Symphony No. 6 - San Francisco/Michael Tilson Thomas          (6 of 7 found this review helpful)

Great sense of drama in this performance, beautifully conveyed in the mulit-channel recording. Razor sharp detail, excellent dynamics and a conductor "line" that is maintained in a masterful way. MTT is really at the top of his game here. Love the way he lets the music surge and subside, clearly ... more
Miles Davis: In A Silent Way      (2 of 2 found this review helpful)

The multi-channel format really serves this music well. The extra detail and spatial separation put you right in the middle of the mix. As to the performances, it's obvious that this is a classic session and for good reason: Miles was breaking new ground at the time. It sounds just as fresh today as ... more

If you're talking to me, I have no idea what you're talking about and how you've managed to come to any conclusions about how seriously (or not) I take life or anything else. My comments are strictly addressing the scope of an audio enthusiast forum. The kind of tangential crap posted here does not fit in that scope. But it's not my forum, of ... more

The fact that this ridiculous thread is allowed to fester is evidence of a lack of moderation. Understandable perhaps, if one guy is all there is to clean up poop like this. In any case, this thread is wholly inappropriate for a forum devoted to discussion of SACD and should be taken down ASAP. ... more

Analogue Productions Blue Note SACDs

Slightly OT, but I just got the new Analogue Productions LP of Bill Evans' "Portrait in Jazz" and it's about what you might expect: excellent! Warm and detailed and all the things that RBCDs are not, i.e. harsh, fatiguing, etc. Sigh. ... more
