Well its been a long wait, but finally the best stuff has made it onto my doormat and into my SACD player. I've only listened to the 5.1 channel version, but based upon the careful use of the surround mix assume the 2ch will also sound superb.

I must admit to first listening to this on lp all those years ago, and not really liking it. I'd just seen Elton on his 'Single Man Tour' so this was a surprise . However, after reading such great reviews, and being a snip at £8 from Amazon, i thought i'd try.

This was the first CD I ever heard. I went with a friend into a HiFi shop, and they were demoing new CD players (Marantz) and they had this disc. I was blown away with the sound, and it has been a favourite of mine ever since.

| Do you get playbackly on an Audio CD?
Methinks it might be an issue between your amp and the PS3 HDMI. If the disc is recognised as SACD then it plays. When you read the title on the screen, does it say sacd 2ch, multich etc? or cd, as it can read both sacd and cd layer. | Its very difficult to quantify 'sounding £900 better' :-)
Typically the cost vs performance is an exponential curve, which is why upgrading can be very expensive.
In this digital age, the easy part of the equation is getting the data off the disc bit perfect, what you then do with those bits is rather more taxing!

| One cost effective approach would be to buy a Denon DVD 2900 and get the upgrade. That way you get top sound at a reasonable price.
As far as reference players go, well how deep are your pockets! But a great player should be affordable in the 1K band, as much more than this and your into 'esoteria' hifi, where having the 'only one of its kind' is ... more |
