| Abbey Road was famous long before The Beatles. The world's first custom-built recording studio, it was inaugurated in 1931 with Elgar conducting the LSO in 'Land of Hope and Glory'. | Apologies for the late (!) reply, but listening to this performance (in stereo) this afternoon just reinforces my earlier reservations. Beautifully played and well recorded, but to me Mackerras's reading is much more dramatic (and involving). The sound -on RBCD - isn't bad either (better with the lights off, though). ... more | |
