The music is certainly not my cup of tea, and I don't think this disk benefits greatly, if at all from being on SACD, and certainly not from being multi-channel, given that it is just two instruments playing infront of you, neither of which require high-resolution to reproduce their sound. Having ... more

I got this after a personal recoomendation from a non-SACD friend, i.e. purely for the music. I am not a jazz man, but I do like folksy jazz by the likes of Norah Jones and Feist. Alos, I have heard some jazz, especially by female singers, on the Linn label on SACD. Therefore, I feel I am in a ... more

Just got this album for under £7 brand new from amazon uk. :-) The multi-channel mix is a bit heavy on the rears in some songs. I know this gives greater chance for each instrument to stand out but too artificial for me. Regardign the comment about this giving an in-the-studio feel...only if you ... more

I received this recently thanks to a play.com's 2nd hand sale shop. Bargain at UK£10. The discs are stereo hybrid, so not multi-channel mix. I too would like a SACD player, preferably from Sony as I like their sound, that has DSD direct as you call it. But I would like this with multi-channel analogue out. Any ideas, please? If not Sony, anything else. Money IS an issue, so the cheaper the better. Woudl consider 2nd hand. Many thanks! ... more

What is the point of a high-end receiver that outputs the DSD (or a converted PCM) bitstream via HDMI? You may as well get a £150 one?! ... more
Future of audio only classical? (from occasional classical buyer/listener)

This is a fair point, and one I feel is accurate. However, I did not envisage flickign through the options, but pickign one during a listening session and stickign with it. The one you picked each time you played the disk would depend on what mood you were in. ... more

There is a big potential for high production values and interaction with the Blu Ray format, but I wonder if the market would be big enough to realise this potential. The firt is the obvious high-resolution, multi-channel (and thus immersive and lifelike, or should that be live-like) sound. The second is the interactive qualities. For example, ... more
Going back to stereo

trntbl is right - stereo is here to stay. Get a PS3 - future proofed, and ready for high-res downloads. Plus it can output (downmixed) high-res formats via its stereo output. Or high-res, and CD-based through optical, ready for a DAC of your choice. ... more
