Donald Fagen: The Nightfly      (1 of 1 found this review helpful)
  November 11, 2011

This was originally released (in hi-res format) as a DVD Audio. The resolution used was 24bit/48kHz for both stereo and surround layer. The 24/48 stereo is now available for download from HDTracks for those with music servers and digital streams players. I suppose the question regarding this release ... more
Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture - Gergiev      (6 of 11 found this review helpful)
  April 27, 2010

I was soooo looking forward to the arrival of this disk but it was an anti-climax. I would like to agree with the sentiments of DSD and Steve Steckel with respect to the 1812 Overture. I think this is a rather poor, lifeless and uninspiring recording with far better recordings on SACD (and DVD ... more
Tchaikovsky: Swan Lake (highlights) - Fistoulari    (8 of 10 found this review helpful)
  January 11, 2010

Is this the best Scenes from Swan Lake album? Well I also have a Karajan RBCD of the same which I do love and I could think of some phrasing on Karajan that I prefer but the performance is still excellent. To be honest there are frankly much better qualified people on this forum to discuss the ... more
Maeve O'Boyle: All My Sins      (1 of 1 found this review helpful)
  July 15, 2009

Well I'm hooked. Another excellent artist in the Linn stables. I always worry about comparing artists to their peers so I hope Maeve is not insulted when I say her music style reminds me a little of KD Lang (at her best). The album opens with 'Old Greebwich Time' co-written with Ricky Ross of ... more
Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong: Autumn in New York    (7 of 8 found this review helpful)
  May 26, 2009

I purchased this from ebay quiet a few weeks ago so it has been well played. It opens with probably the best version of 'Summer Time' I have heard. Superb orchestration with Louis trumpet sets the scene and then Ella's stunning vocals just blow you away. PLAY IT LOUD!. The sound is just fantastic. ... more

Discussion: Miles Davis: Kind of Blue

Both are standard CD casings, not SuperJewel. Again if you are looking for the better release the Japanese Sony release is far better. The Columbia has no LFE worthy of mentioning for starters. The Sony release has much better bass and piano presence, nice LFE, cleaner brass and is a superior product IMHO. I'll be interested to here the Stereo ... more
Oppo 95 Issue
April 24, 2013
I too recently had a similar issue when I swapped a Blu-ray for an SACD. The player just displayed 'Loading' and did nothing else. Even ejecting and reloading with different discs of different formats made no difference. Power cycling resolved it. ... more

Discussion: Karajan & Callas - 4 Great Operas
April 22, 2013
I purchased this from a Japanese seller on a certain action site when it was just released. It was the only place I could find it, well not at the silly prices charged by certain audiophile web sites. It. was limited to 1500 copies. There a couple available on the sed action site. Or if you wish to pay silly prices then just do a search on 'Karajan ... more
So, has Blu ray-Audio gotten any potential?

Interestingly, Stevie Wonders 'Songs In The Key Of Life' is to be released on Blu-Ray Audio only according to CDJAPAN. I Wonder if it will be 5.1. http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=NEOIMP-6671 Also DIANA KRALL - THE LOOK OF LOVE [Blu-ray Audio] BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS - LEGEND [Blu-ray Audio] OSCAR PETERSON TRIO - NIGHT TRAIN ... more
