Kiki Dee: Almost Naked    (1 of 1 found this review helpful)

What an amazing disc. The recording is very clean, intimate and alive. Very sparse....just voice, guitar and the occasional subtle keyboards. Great performance and songs, many written by Kiki herself. This is a laid back disc but I highly recommend it.
Beck: Sea Change    (1 of 1 found this review helpful)

This recording seems to be a love it or hate it proposition. Sadly I must put myself in the latter category. The sonics are fine, but I don't find them as outstanding as others do. And the music is dreadfully dreary IMHO, the tempo varies little from track to track. Maybe I'm missing something, ... more

I have to agree with replevin on this one. Music is OK but you need to be in the right mood. It's very dark and brooding with references to water in almost every song. Sonics are awful....huge disappointment. They will severely limit how often this disc gets played in my home. I'm a big junkies ... more
Peter Gabriel: Us  (1 of 2 found this review helpful)
  February 27, 2007

I own all the earlier Gabriel albums (up to "So") and enjoy them all. This is the first one that I honestly say I found to be dull. Sure there are some good tracks (Kiss the Frog & Secret World) but over-all nothing here moved me. Also found the sound to somewhat lacking. Not bad but not great ... more

There were two versions of this on SACD, The Deluxe Edition which had the plastic slipcase but no DVD. http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=6407751 The regular edition in a cardboard gatefold, no slipcover but did include the DVD. http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=6406986 Kind of strange....the "Deluxe" Edition (other than ... more
Discussion: Bob Dylan: Desire
May 31, 2008
I have virtually nothing to compare to. The only non SACD Dylan I own is the Gold DCC of Highway 61. I also have a modest system that hasn't been calibrated, tweaked, etc. With that in mind here are my 2 cents: Yes, Desire sounds awful. Probably the worst of the bunch. John Wesley Harding ain't great either. Oh Mercy, on the other hand, is ... more
How many of us are listening to SACD only because it has multichannel playback capability?
April 19, 2008
I have about 150 SACDs. Multi Channel (or even hybrid) is not an issue. Believe it or not, I have yet to listen to any of my SACDs in multi-channel. I prefer good old 2 channel, especially since that's all my good system can accommodate. One of these days I'll try a few in theatre system ... more
