I received this disc (set) last week with a feeling of great anticipation, after reading many great reviews. My let down was immediate.

I have been deeply impressed with everything that I have heard in the re-mastered Living Stereo SACD series and this recording featuring Van Cliburn performing the Schumann Piano Concerto as well as the Beethoven Emperor Concerto just continues in this tradition of excellence.

I had not heard a Heifetz recording in over ten years. I don't remember being too impressed with his fiddle playing the first time I investigated his recordings and I must say that I was not impressed this time either.

DISAPPOINTING...I expected so much better than this from this conductor. This music deserves so much more. Haitink is merely sleepwalking here. | I have observed the same thing regarding the sampling rate. I think the conversion is easier going from 88.1 kHz PCM to DSD. Less steps...less decimation...a truer sounding transfer. ... more |

| It's disappointing to hear that this set is not hybrid. Every other release in the series (EMI-Japan, EMI-UK) that I have got my hands on has been hybrid, but I guess its the SACD remastering that's most important and I have been deeply pleased with everything in this series that I have heard so far.
