I would disagree with John Fordham's criticism of this album as simply "easy listening: "a lot of this set can slip into drivetime background mode." http://music.guardian.co.uk/jazz/reviews/story/0,,2082039,00.html These interpretations have substance.. Needless to say, this is a five star ... more

I have only compared the HD DSD stereo programme with the 1979 Stereo MFSL Half Speed Master Lp. and, have not compared thethis SACD version with the 1994 PCM remaster RBCD nor original PCM master for RBCD.. So I cannot make any comparisons here with the previous CD releases nor surround vs. quad ... more

This disc continues Eighty-Eights/Village history of quality recordings. I highly recommended this disc if you enjoy jazz. Richard Bona's electric bass shines through. As with the other SA-CD releases, this is a DSD recording. The gold "Master Sound" logo indicates the Direct SBM technique must ... more

It was not until the 1992 Mastersound SBM "Gold" CDs they got the timing of the tracks on side 2 corrrect . . . then in 1999 they included the alternate take of . "Flamenco Sketches" first on CD than ... more

There has been no indication yet that the Japanese reissues of just the 1981 Recording utilise the DSD master sourced from the analog backup tape. I haven't listen to "State Of Wonder" although many claim that the difference is significant. If not already doing so, I hope Sony eventually use this later DSD master. ... more

Zeus, I 'm aware of the entry here for the single Layer US SACD, SS 37779 [t=225] Although I just came across the 2007 Japanese release of a Hybrid-CD with a slightly different cover, DYCC-10062; http://www.sonymusicshop.jp/detail.asp?goods=DYCC000010062 I don't know if you add reissues etc to the database (I should considering how long I've been ... more
