As always with Pentatone, the sound is astounding: you feel seated in the middle of the church, and listening in MC with 4 columns and a central, I could hardly hear any problem with the bass. As for the performance though, I found it a bit flat, especially on the great opening Bach toccata. As the ... more

I bought this disc on the face of the previous comments, but it just doesn't seem to work on my player (an Onkyo DV-SP 800 universal player). The player displays "DVD" and seems unable to find any track. Has anybody else encountered this problem? And am I going to face the same problem if I buy ... more

This recording seems to have a veil on it, which is why I am giving it only 3 stars (listening in multichannel). Otherwise the performance is fine and to those who like the music of César Franck, I can only recommend this SACD.

DVD-audio versus SACD

So have I. I own about 40 SACDs and only two DVD-As. And as for my buy list, there are only 6 DVD-As on it (versus 113 SACDs). The bad thing with DVD-A - as far as I can judge from my own (limited) experience - is that you can't use it as a regular CD (i.e. just put in the player and play): you've got to switch the TV on and navigate through the ... more
