Queen: A Day at the Races      (3 of 3 found this review helpful)
  August 7, 2012

Queen has been on my "todo" list for along time, waiting for the prejudice from being subjected to radio repetition to fade. It took 15 years, and with the SHM releases I bit the bullet on these releases. I'm pleasantly surprised to find that this album, comprised of songs which I haven't heard, is ... more

Excellent tone by the violinist. These gentle piano and violin duets are ideal late night music. The recording is excellent, they're a charming duo and currently playing in front of my fireplace.
Debussy: Complete Piano Music - Walter Gieseking        (7 of 15 found this review helpful)

I'm new to Debussy, Satie meets Eine Kleine Nachtmusik? His own quote best describes this disc (at least the first so far!) 'Music is the expression of the movement of the waters, the play of curves described by changing breezes" The music on this disc is wonderful, and performance is gentle and ... more

Beethoven: Violin Concerto - Oistrakh        (4 of 11 found this review helpful)
  April 20, 2012

This recording and performance are wonderful. Oistrakh never sounds wispy and leads the orchestra (conducted superbly by Cluytens, so no suprises there). I'm so glad a friend introduced me to Oistrakh, they dont make them like this anymore.

Since the US$ has dropped so much in value, your just going to have to realise that everything is not going to be as cheap anymore. Americans have such different expectations from everyone else about what things should cost. Be happy you got to enjoy a dream currency for 50 years. Maybe China will start outsourcing jobs to the US one day! ... more

I was surprised to see this has no reviews. One of the best if not the best performances and a good recording wonderfully remastered. The Piano sounded very natural and liquid, so I went to check the booklet... no surprises here, DSD mastering. ... more
