| Just thought I'd chime in here and say how thrilled I am with this sampler disc - suddenly I have a shopping list again where I was a little uninspired of late... | Excellent! I didn't know about those. The Covent Garden one is a favourite of mine, and is one of the best sounding opera DVDs I have. I have the Pioneer issue of Verdi's Otello from Covent Garden, which is another good one - very atmospheric recording at least as presented in DTS surround. | In the early days of DVD Covent Garden Pioneer issued the 'Gold And Silver Gala' in 24bit 96kHz stereo, and it sounds wonderful. (I think Pioneer meant it as a demo of DVD sound capabilities - they never followed it up with more releases) ... more | |

| This would possibly be true of many multi-channel masters that are intended for stereo and surround? The 'ambience' channels become the rears in a surround mix, and are included in the stereo version too. Perhaps the important thing is that the decisions are made by a recording engineer/Tonmeister/producer and not by some chip designed by Dolby. ... more | |
