I first came across this SACD on Hong Kong ebay, and as far as I know, it's still only available on HK ebay. The surprising thing about this SACD is that it was licensed by a Taiwanese record company for release on SACD. Anyway, if you know Norah Jones from her 2 solo albums, then get ready for a ... more

If one has never had the chance to listen to Shirley Kwan, then this SACD would be an excellent sampler of her work. While the songs are presented out of chronological order, they showed the artistic growth of a very able vocalist. On soft ballads, Kwan was able to give each a breathy presentation ... more

This was one of the earliest SACDs released in Hong Kong, and from a surprising source, Warner Music. This is a 2-disc set, one being a single-layer stereo SACD, with the other being a DSD-remastered CD of the same music. Given that this particular disc is a "Best of", the music was compiled from ... more
John Denver: The Best of John Denver  (1 of 1 found this review helpful)

This title is now out of print, although you may still be able to find a copy floating around. I am not a John Denver fan, although I am quite familiar with his hits. However, this recent purchase really pulled me into his music. On this SACD, JD gave an excellent performance that was both emotional ... more

SACD is still relevant. For the 4th straight year, there will be a free SACD demo sampler (with paid admission) to the upcoming 2008 Hong Kong High-End Audio Visual Show (August 8th - 10th). As with last year's demo SACD, the SACD will be pressed in Austria by Sony. ... more

Except for several live concert recordings and 2 single-inventory studio albums, all of HK Universal's SACDs were 2 channel stereo. I am just guessing, but there're a couple of reasons for only 2 channel stereo SACD releases.... 1. The lack of living space needed for multi-channel systems in the typical HK home. 2. About 10 years ago, much of HK ... more

OK, from what I've gathered about these 4 "new" SACDs from HK Universal Music, looks like these were originally planned for release back in 2003. All 4 SACDs carry copyright dates from 2003. I have heard that several years back HK Universal had advertised SACD titles in print ads but never released them. Perhaps these were amongst those ... more

You called yourself crazy and you have no MiniDisc recorder or DCC recorder? LOL (I just purchased a refurbished MD component recorder directly from Sony) Don't forget Denon....it's the only company publicly stating it's looking to introduce a BD/SACD/CD player. However, with the sale of D&M Holdings (parent company to Denon, Marantz, McIntosh, ... more
