Mendelssohn: Complete Concertos - Markiz  (7 of 9 found this review helpful)
  February 1, 2008

There is much to admire and enjoy in this collection of Mendelssohn concertos originally issued by BIS in the mid 1990s on single cds and as a '4 for the price of 3' cd boxed set. Many of the concerto compilations I have purchased in the past draw on recordings made with different soloists, ... more
Grieg: Peer Gynt - Ruud      (6 of 6 found this review helpful)
  July 9, 2005

Mariss Jansons (who was in the audience) is reported as saying "the orchestra played at 200 per cent ... it was an unbelievable occasion". ... more

HMV in dire straights
January 27, 2013
I went into my local HMV a week ago (in Oxford here in the UK) to see what was going on it was packed and the checkout counter struggled to cope with the volume of sales. Looking at the queue of those waiting to pay it was clear stacks of movies on DVD and games were being shifted rather than cds let alone SACDs. There appears to be over 50 ... more
Rattle leaving Berliner Philharmoniker in 2018
January 10, 2013
News agencies are reporting Simon Rattle will leave the Berliner Philharmoniker when his contract expires in five years time. Perhaps not a great surprise he will after all have been at the helm of that great orchestra for 16 years by the time he leaves. ... more
