Steely Dan: Aja  (6 of 6 found this review helpful)

The SACD I've been waiting for since the introduction of the format. I own the original 1977 vinyl album as well as the 30th anniversary lp from Cisco. I own the normal cd and the MFSL version both. Other than with the other reviewer I immediately noticed the leap forward in quality. The music is ... more

Although I'm Dutch myself I don't care much for Dutch music. I don't like the sound of our language much where singing is involved. Most music I listen to comes from the states and the UK. What I don't like about a lot of these productions is the fact that they are heavily compressed and over ... more

Based on the other reviews on this site I decided long ago to stay away from this one. Since there are hardly any new SACD's on the market one starts to buy what is available. First of all let me tell you that this is one of my favorite all time albums. I own it on vinyl in both the 1977 and the ... more

I actually wanted to write a story similar to the one 'Big Tony' did. All he states is so very, very true. I own Selling England on cd as well as on vinyl. This sacd version out performs them both by the same difference as the light from the moon and the sun where the latter represents the sacd ... more

Although I partly agree with the other review and I believe 'Motown Two' is the better sounding album I would like to give some more points for the sonics. Yes it's not as smooth as could be and indeed is over produced. But it's still a great sacd mix.

Not meant to insult any of you. Let me put it this way. An SACD will never be better than the master it was made from. I think we can agree upon that. 'Gaucho' has been a superior sounding album even when it first arrived. So for me there is no need to compare 'Aja' with 'Gaucho' again 30 years or so later. Just as I'm not comparing the all ... more

I can't believe what I'm reading. I own the original 1977 vinyl album as well as the 30th anniversary edition by Cisco. I own the redbook CD and the MFSL remaster. Now I'm spinning the SACD for the third time in a row as we speak. This is way, way better than the 30th anniversary version. Dynamic, well balanced without a trace of sharpens. Any ... more
