I find this a truly strange one. The musicianship is first rate. Jacintha’s vocals are up to her usually high level of competence and the chosen tune selections are all ones I like. The problem is I can’t just put this on and sit and listen to it because if I do so I start to nod off. I’m not ... more

John Mayall & Friends: Along for the Ride is a wonderful disc that I enjoyed for quite a while and had it as one of my main “car” discs on Redbook CD. The sound quality is excellent and the performance always gave me a lift whenever I played it. As mentioned above the combo of great musical ... more

With all the great talent assembled here this SACD is somewhat of a letdown specially after all the hype, promotion and awards. I really like a few of the cuts but if they are enough to justify the purchase is a good question. IMHO the outstanding cuts are: 1. Here We Go Again (with Norah ... more

Enough has previously been written about the performance over the years so I will just comment on the sound quality of the SACD in 2 Channel. As described in the accompanying notes Gert Palmerantz the recording engineer approached this project with a passion seldom encountered in a commercial ... more

Just got this and find that IMHO in 2 channel it is not too good. The sound is too "up front" and "in your face". I have to play it back at a very low level as when the vocal is accompanied by anything more than one instrument it forms a "solid wall" of sound with no depth. Maybe this one is meant ... more

My friend has one also and he thinks its pretty good. It's just that I want to spend my resources on music I know I really like as there is so much out there. Unfortunately I have enough SACD titles that don't "move me" just sitting there gathering dust already. ... more

Just picked this up but haven't opened it yet. It's a good thing I just read the reviews of it here. It's going back for exchange. I did a review here of 'The Look Of Love' a while back and unfortunately from what I can gather 'The Girl in the Other Room' is more of the same without even some of the "standards". Pity, she displayed a real Jazz ... more

A couple of clarifications. My Vultures SACD originally came in one of those weird heavy book style cases about twice as thick and longer in length than a regular or even SACD plastic jewel box. I had someone copy the back of the enclosed booklet to act as a tray card as I transferred the disc to a regular CD jewel case for convenience. They ... more

Wow, strange. My copy has "24 Bits/96KHZ Mastering Technology" prominently displayed on both the back of the 'tray card' as well as the back of the insert booklet. Mine is Top Music SACD-1028 and is a Hybrid. I don't think it matters what format it would be done in as according to my copy, the original recording is listed as 24 Bits/96KHZ. A ... more
