Performance:
Oh, where to begin?

Warnings started flashing through my mind within seconds of the opening - where was the shaping of the introduction themes? Things do not improve with tempo choices that manage to rob the music of all its drama, neuroses and passion. It as if Zacharias wishes to view Schumann as if it were Schubert but without the melancholy and angst. I have never heard such serene and relaxed Schumann - and that is not meant as flattery. The only strong feeling these performances did provoke was that of frustration - where is the life-affirming passion & vitality that are to be found in Schumann: Symphonies Nos. 2 & 4 - Dausgaard & Schumann: Symphonies Nos. 3 & 4 - Dausgaard?

In the face of such lacklustre performances, the sonic considerations are immaterial.

Not recommended at all - the performance marks are for the orchestra only.
