If a picture paints a thousand words, this album exudes a thousand melodies and evokes countless memories. One that easily transport listeners back in time: in their childhood days, in their days of youth, exuberance and recklessness. Ah, to be young again...

An assembly of simple, heartfelt and deeply personal tunes can best describe this album. Tunes that ordinary mortals can relate to, even to these often chaotic and confusing times. Simple tunes that show the genius of Carole's songwriting. Simple tunes that will live forever.

This is the first time that I owned this album but I've heard the songs many times on the radio, through my family's record player many, many moons ago and through borrowed cds. I am thankful for the opportunity to have the high definition studio version of It's Going To Take Sometime, Sweet Seasons, Some Kind Of Wonderful, Carry Your Load and Song Of Long Ago in my collection. From Carole's smooth vocals, James Taylor's detailed strings, Charles Larkey's pluck of acoustic bass to Danny Korchmar's electric guitar grooves, everything here just jives smoothly.

Surely, critics can say that in this album production is sparse and thus, far from being perfect but for me its beauty and timelessness was borne out of its simplicity and imperfection. Sound quality may be perceived as "dated" and may not be comparable to current recordings but I believe this version is a lot better than previous cd issues. One observation though, Carole's vocals are a bit forward (but smooth and not overbearing) on some tracks, but that's minor and maybe was originally recorded that way and doesn't detract from the album's excellence. A really very fine album overall!

From Song Of Long Ago:

....As it began, so I will end it
Singing a song of long ago
Loving the people I've befriended
And singing a song of long, long, long ago
