Performance:   Sonics:
Anyone who doesn't think this recording is spectacular has a sad life. Wow. I had a huge collection of SACD and DVD-Audio, but alas, bad economy, and I had to sell a bunch of them. This one fetched a big price, but honestly, wish I wouldn't have sold it. No matter what you play this on, it sounds spectacular. A prime example for those who say that the source is what is most important in a system. From the opening cut it takes you back to a Sunday early afternoon in the late thirties. Their voices are spectactular, the tune is playful. Each one tells you why this gravely voiced man was so beloved and the music so popular. Of all the discs I sold I miss this the most.

It knocked my off my chair in my office on my stupid little office system and didn't disappoint me no matter where I listened to it. It's special.

But, it's not flat 20 - 20khz +-0 db nor is there any bottom end, but who cares. It's like having the guy in the room with you and he and the woman he sings with make you smile.

I'm somewhat of a rocker/singer/songwriter fan. I like Crosby Stills Nash, Yes, Metallica, Dave Matthews. But this Satch Plays Fats is my favorite disc of all time. Even more than Fragile, which held that spot for me till I heard this disc.

unlike Tom i enjoy this disc very much.

i don't think it's stereo. it sounds like plain mono to me.

i've heard few times at my mate's original 50's mono LPs which were played on very good analog and over setup (Cleraudio reference, wilson system 6, cary 805, etc).

this disc sounds so much similar to those mono LPs!
it suceeds to produce the same "analog-like" effect.

the mastering is very very clean although treble is a bit "closed" and bass is a bit lean - but we can't know for shure - perhaps it's because of recording that was made at 1929......

performance is great and music is very good.

i easily recomend this disc to every jazz lover.

this is one the discs that makes great impression on non-SACD folks - it makes them smile, relax on the sofa and start thinking about getting SACD.

Since Armstrong Plays W.C. Handy is one of my favorate SACDs, I bought Satch Plays Fats. From the beginning I was disappointed. The sonics don't match the Handly album and I think that makes it difficult for me to appreciate the performance. I never really enjoyed this and jumped at the opportunity to trade it for another SACD.
