The Boston Symphony owns Daphnis et Chloe... PERIOD!!!

Start with the Munch recording, then come to this one. I only wish Sony would give us a surround multichannel of Boulez with the New York Philharmonic (the Berlin recording is tame and dull by comparison) of which we can only hear the last Suite on a CBS/Sony 2-channel disc. That is one of the great Ravel discs in the SACD discography. Do not miss it!!!

To come back to Boston Symphony, the sound quality on this release is lovely. It reproduces the sound of the BSO in full cry with an attentive audience and it is a thing of beauty. This ballet requires a very rhythmic, propulsive, sensual conductor and Levine provides that, brilliantly.

Listen to how orgasmic the singing is in the final Bacchanale at what is the end of the ballet, the Tanglewood Festival Chorus sounds as if it is drunk with sexual energy, which is exactly as it should be!!! I got this disc and have just played it over and over just letting is roll about the house wide open, enjoying its energy.

So, while I will not part with the 2-channel Munch Living Stereo, this one will get much play.

The playing is sensual, sensitive, full of life, and brilliant, unlike the disastrous Chicago Symphony SACD with Haitink, the most BORING, asexual, and pedantic performance of this work I have ever heard.

I have not listened in 2-channel, as I think it is pointless...

Get this disc, support the Boston Symphony, and enjoy!
