Performance:   Sonics:
This is a re-release. I purchased this multi-channel SACD on Amazon well over a year ago. The original release date of this recording was 2008. I was so disappointed with this recording, I have since sold it. It's interesting that now Amazon shows a new release date of June 11, 2013, more than 1 1/2 years after I bought it and sold it on Amazon with the same ASIN number. However, JPC shows the correct original release date of 2-22-2008. I don't understand why Querstand keeps re-releasing this SACD on Amazon.

This is taken from a live performance from 2007. I found this multi-channel recording to be muddy and distant. It sounds as though the microphones were placed too far away from the performers. Also, the performance is a little lackluster. The grandeur of the Sea does not come across as well as in other recordings, possibly due to the distant recording technique. The choir's diction is not as good as I've heard from other choirs. The sound of the choir is even more distant than the orchestra.

If you are looking for a decent Multi-channel recording of this great symphony, I highly recommend the Chandos/Hickox/London Multi-channel SACD version with the gorgeous voices of Gerald Finley and Susan Gritton (Vaughan Williams: A Sea Symphony - Hickox) and get the Telerc/Spano/Atlanta's multi-channel SACD version with the beautiful voices of Christine Goerke and Brett Polegato (Vaughan Williams: Sea Symphony - Atlanta Symphony/Spano). Both are better recordings and have more passion, detail and grandeur than this recording.
