Performance:   Sonics:
Blomstedt is a rather underated conductor. He does not belong to the "glitzy-elite" of jet-setting conductors that travel around, conduct everything and do not have much to say.
Blomstedt is different. He has preferred to develop relationships with a few orchestras, that will show at the time of performances or recordings.

In this particular disc it shows. The Gewandhaus musicians obviously love the conductor and they follow him wholehartedly, which means a performance of rare coherence. Blonstedt prefers, in Bruckner, the clarity of the musical architecture and contrast of timbres to high drama. Thus this recording allows us to savour all of Bruckner´s subtelties, without loosing the orchestral punch when needed. The Adagio is wonderful in it´s sense of repose.

The sound is excellent, orchestra well caught, sound never congested, and noce sorround sound ambience.
