Performance:  Sonics (S):
Kazune Shimizu is a pianist whom I only know from his Chopin-Interpreations, also on the Triton-Label. I like these recordings very much, so I had a try with this coupling of these often-recorded romantic "warhorses". And I was not disappointed. Shimizu has a romantic, but a clear and not distending approach to this music (no Lang-Lang, who impressed me at first listening I have to confess !!) - The Tschaikowsky is good, the best DSD-recording of the piano concert. But the Grieg is even better, a thrilling interpretation of this a thousand times heard music. Much better than the Ogawa-version (BIS), which is very good recorded (like many of the former DSD-recordings of BIS), but compared with this new one it is a bit boring. - Kobayashi is an equal partner, and for the future I wished him to be more quiet during the recording sessions. The sound is very good, direct, but natural, maybe there could be a little more depth. Only listened in stereo. - Highly recommended. I hope for more recordings of this team, for example finally a Schumann piano concert?!
