It was a shock to hear Little Richard sound like this. For the first time in my life I can actually feel him in the sound booth. An interesting note is that there is no reverb or sound reflections in the recording booth so even though he sounds incredibly real he is also a tad dry sounding. There is no doubt that on the regualr cd editions on the market a fake reverb was added to make him sound more palatable.
THIS RELEASE IS EXTRORDINARY IF ONLY TO BRING AN INCREDIBLE REALISM TO THESE CLASSIC EARLY 50'S SONGS. i MEAN THIS IS ROCK AND ROLL. It's a little shocking to hear Little Richard sound this way.
I have heard some music lovers complain about some of the work Mobile Fidelity does regarding their sacd's. One must understand their philosophy regarding the transfer of all their music. They, simply put, beleve that absolutely no tinkering is to be done on the original master tapes. No remixing or changing of the original design of the music. Their only concern is to give you exactly what is on said master tape........warts and all. In all truth there may be very rare instances that you may hear tape drop outs of some hissing or even deterioration of the actual elements.Some of these tapes are over 50 years old. But to correct these things would sincerely degrade the quality of the transfer and the sacd. Then we could ask ourselves why even bother buying the sacd when it's been degraded to correct degradation??? There is far more good to be had than bad. I guess what I'm trying to say is that sometimes we cant expect perfection and as long as the good far outweighs that bad we can take solce in that fact. I truly believe that can be said for this release. And it;'s also nice to note that the complaints are because people really care about the music and thats important as well.
One other note regarding sacd. Its a very special technology and in using it it is always better to use is as simply as possible and to keep dsd pure which is what Mofi does thankfully. You have no idea how many studio's lie and cheat in giving us sub par products.
When the tapes are in good condition the quality is truly breathtaking. And even when the tapes are a little worn the quality is still excellent.
Highly recommended.
