Performance:  Sonics:
This is a reissue of a 1986 recording made for Concord, which apparently was recorded on analog tape (no information is given in the booklet). Unlike the SACDs released by Concord itself, this one has not been remixed for multichannel.

Musically, this meeting of Concord house tenor Scott Hamilton with bariton legend Gerry Mulligan is a conservative and laid back affair, typical for Concord. The soloing of the two saxophonists is excellent and never boring. The rest of the band are perfect sidemen, and they stay in the background.

The sound is also very typical for Concord. I can only describe it as "glossy". The balance of the instruments clearly focusses on the two saxophonists, dynamics and details are good, but the sound is covered under a certain polished veil. It's not as present and clear as most Telarc or Eighty-Eights SACDs.
