Review by Cornan November 12, 2007 (2 of 5 found this review helpful)
Performance:  Sonics (MC):
The format of this disc is 5.0 (no subwoofer channel).

Given that my main SACD player gives no indication of which channels are active (actually, none of them do; is there a surround sound meter on the market?) I wanted to verify this before posting a review here. A gentleman at Oehms Classics was kind enough to confirm this.

Apparently, "most of the [Oehms Classics] recordings of classical repertoire are [5.0]".

I would say that this recording of organ music suffers somewhat from the lack of a subwoofer channel, though my speakers are full range models with 12 inch woofers on the front speakers.

I can't say that the surrounds gave me much sense of the recording venue - but this may be exactly the effect desired, especially if this is not a strongly reverberant space.

The music is well played, though I don't think all of the transcriptions for organ were equally effective.

For me, this was an interesting disc, but not necessarily one I'll play often.
