Review by Tootsie March 11, 2007 (9 of 9 found this review helpful)
Performance:   Sonics:
The listening to the music of this contemporary of Beethoven is quite pleasant, if not marked by genius. These are his only two known symphonies, and this is their first ever recording. The music is reminiscent of Haydn or Mozart, and the different movements are classic in their form & structure. It is well played on period instruments by the Pratum Integrum, an orchestra playing wihout a conductor. As there are no other recordings to compare this music to, I'll give 5 stars for performance, because I enjoyed it very much.
There are bonus tracks presenting a duett for fortepiano and cello. While being equally well played, I did not enjoy that part as much as the symphonies.

The sound in MC is very good, with a realistic spacial rendition. There are moments where I can hear just a little bit of harshness on strings, but I think it's coming from the period instruments, I'm not much used to listen to. I'll give 4,5 starts for MC sonics.

The inline notes of the SACD (in english, german and russian) are informative of the music and the composer.

Overall, a good recommendation for this SACD I will come back to with pleasure.
