gosh, well it just goes to show how different people using different equipment react to the same recording - i personally found these discs the VERY WORST i have yet encountered in terms of multichannel sound. the big problem is the huge, untamed amount of resonance captured in the monastic acoustic. this gives a swim of echo round the instruments, making them seem much bigger and woozier than they should be, smearing the clean lines of the playing, and creating a most unpleasantly soupy impression. the swathes of echo are unfortunately only exaggerated by rear and centre channel information. i'd call this a thoroughly inept piece of engineering, and i simply couldn't listen to these performances twice. so at the the very least try to hear a sample of this set before buying, as you could easily be as disappointed as i was. the playing is good, though with the terrible sound it seems irrelevant.

I have seen absolutely no press on this release, not in pubs like Fanfare and Gramophone, nor in specialty pubs like TAS and Stereophile, and not in this forum either. I don't understand!

This a a great release, and should be in the collection of every lover of Mozart and of chamber music.

The Fine Arts Quartet have been around for many years with some changes in personnel. This release is Mozart done in a style not unlike that of the Smetana Quartet-very middle European, like drinking a fine German or Czech beer. This is definitely not period instruments playing but instead is warm and genial. The music is some of Mozart's best chamber music, which says volumes.

It is a pricey release, but is one of the best releases I have heard in the SACD multichannel format and will repay the investment with many hours of enjoyment.

What a fine set of recorded music these three discs represent!!!! The playing is top notch, as is the recording.
I agree with Tream that this set should be in every Mozart and chamber music lover's collection.
This is an expensive set, but worth it.
I also agree with Tream about no reviews or anything in the classical publications. Pity really.
