Authentic (review from amazon.com)
As a Romanian that has heard numerous interpretations of Bartok's Romanian Folk Dances, I found that most recordings are not quite in sync to Romanian musical tradition, and Herkenhoff's is exemplary. Virtually every aspect in Herkenhoff's playing sounds stylistically native, from the instrument's raspy sound color to the rubatos and tempi changes. Herkenhoff's "Postcards of a Romanian Journey" is also a very respectable piece. The instrumentation is for pan flute and orchestra provides a equal voice to both the classical and native Eastern European traditions. Though I haven't had the chance to listen to the rest of this CD, I am anxious to.
