Fine conducting from Mackerras. The Festive Overture comes through less succesfully, as it lacks buoyancy. The symphony is much better. Sonically, the overture sounds rather crude, strings brittle, but a nice sonic image. The symphony fares much better, adding quite a lot of depth and volume to the orchestra image.
