This is one of the best discs in the series. Fortunately, most of the tracks were recorded in three-channel technology and show Leontyne Price at her very best. For the first time her voice can be heard in all its beauty and splendour. The orchestral accompaniment is also first-class. Especially in the excerpts from Puccini operas the sheer richness of the sound is overwhelming. The arias from "Il Trovatore" were taken from a complete recording of that opera (the cast includes Richard Tucker and Leonard Warren). Who would not want to have that on SACD?
