The Kinks albums on can you go wrong ! Preservation Act 1 is totally mapped from the genius drama-like qualities of the "Arthur" album with huge themed songs and great musicianship. Ray Davies had this huge concept stage and album presentation in mind when he undertook this huge project which spans 3 vinyl records (Act 1 and Act 2 in combination). Complete with tubas, trumpets, flutes, trombone, saxes, clarinets and strings this was one of Ray's finest albums! The song "Daylight" is still one of the great Kink's tracks.....and of course you cannot forget "Where are they now?"
I have this recording on vinyl, remastered Redbook CD and now SACD and IMHO this IS the definitive version of this album to own. The album was remastered to SACD by Alan Silverman who did a very good job is "preserving" this gem and building onto the master. The sound on the SACD is very clean and noticeably deeper than my redbook remastered CD.
