Reviews:

Poetic texts and ethnic music (review from amazon.co.uk)
Bernard Lavillier travelled a lot, and his music has been influenced by so many different styles that it is hard to classify... An unspecified "ethnic" is the closest I can find. It really is a mixture of French pop and South American sounds, with a touch of African rythmes. Sometimes, even Japanese or Spanish influences come into it.

On the other hand, his texts are very much his own. In this album, he talks about love. But there's nothing softly romantic about these songs, they express raw emotions, violence and despair. They smell of sweat and blood.

My advice: if you don't understand French, get someone to translate these songs for you. You won't be wasting your time.
