Performance:  Sonics:
An excellent performance of the Eroica--and the overtures, as well. I originally bought this one on Epic mono, when I was a kid. Since then there have been other contenders for my favorite.

The orchestral playing is fabuluous as in most of Szell's renditions. The sound on this one is the disappointment. No, not terrible. It is an improvement over the Columbia CD reissue. Still it is from '57 and shows it. The overtures on here are from 1966 recordings and sound better than the symphony.

Overall, I'd say this one would be more likely for Szell fans. 5 for performances; 3 for sound.
