Performance:   Sonics:
This is one of the great performances of the arias of Irene from Handel's Theodora - I read in a music magazine or on a web site that Harry Bicket, the conductor on this disc, arranged this recording in a rush with Avie just to capture this performance of Lorraine Hunt Lieberson - thank goodness he did. It is one of those magical discs that one is afraid of hearing too often, just in case too frequent listening spoils the pleasure.

Lorraine Hunt sings with exceptional steadiness, concentration and conviction, with each word ideally coloured, forcing one to listen and hold ones breath. The voice is so clear, fine in stereo but even better in multi-channel. The orchestral accompaniment is very fine and well balanced. The sound is gorgeous but this performance, from all concerned, transcends recording quality and makes one believe one is there.

The cantata La Lucrezia and the excerpts from Serse are very fine but it is the Theodora that one listens to on this recording.

One of my favourite SACDs over the last year or so.

just use the other guys reveiw on this disc. Im not a classical fan. that gal has a nice voice. im glad I have more amps and speakers. the volume is a little louder than normal. but the recording is at a constant level. I like that and I dont think Ill play any thing after this gal. its true it sounds like your there. I like sarah bright man but I think this gal sings better.I think she sings all the songs in english
