This is a typical example, at least to me, of what Vivaldi's four seasons usually sounds like. You do not have to worry that the Conductor and symphony deviated in any way from how this famous piece has sounded to you since you first heard it.

It is a joy to listen to this sacd but it gets lower marks for only one reason. It is a famous "Sound stream" recording from the early days of digital technology. As such it is only a true sacd in name only. So don;t expect the same type of fidelity one would get if it was recorded either in master tape or pure dsd. If this was originally recorded that way it would be a real winner because there is a lot of talent behind this recording.

As such, while it sounds very nice although a tad cool in feel one can also sense the limitations of early digital recording. The sound stage is limited and you need to really crank the volume to get any weight behind the sound. It has nice highs though and the violins never screech and hurt your ears.

Recemmended for the performance.

While this is indeed a beautifully PLAYED recording, please note that it was originally RECORDED at 50 kHz and 16 bits with the Soundsteam digital recording system.

That's a bit better than CD but not by much. The fact that it sounds as good as it does is a testament to Telarc and the original recording engineers.

Sonicly, it is above CD-quality but certainly not full DSD. I didn't discover this fact until AFTER I paid the premium for it and opened it up.

Still, I'm glad I own it and enjoy it greatly. Just wish I hadn't paid so much for it.

Vivaldi´s four seasons are truly all time highs of baroque music. Ozawa and the Boston Symphonic beautifully reproduce the mood of this masterpiece, the sound is great.
