Performance:  Sonics:
Prokofiev's scores with all their orchestral colour seem like naturals for the MC sacd treatment and here is no exception. Even though this was recorded in 1979 it still sounds great with a bass drum that will echo through your whole room (and maybe your neighbour's as well...) It is a 4.0 recording: the presence or lack of a centre channel doesn't bother me at all. After recording the booklet states that they decided to take out the narrator which i think was an excellent decision as it had always seemed like a distraction on the Muti EMI recording i have of this score. As with the Pentatone RQR releases it just proves that they were making great MC recordings in the 70s; now i just wish EMI would open their vaults of surround recordings from that era!
