Performance:   Sonics:
I first tried this artist's Albeniz Iberia SACDs and that was so good it prompted me to buy his Liszt as well. I searched for his website and discovered that he has a lot of information about Liszt and this recording. I think Mr. Ish-Hurwitz has given us even better performance of Liszt than he did of Albeniz' Iberia. Also, I liked the recording quality of the Liszt a little better than the Albeniz recording. Perhaps it was the different recording venue used, but the results are ravishing here in the Liszt. In comparing Mr. Ish-Hurwitz performance to Mr. Bolet (Liszt: Piano Works [Box Set]), who is considered my many to be the de facto greatest interpreter of Liszt, I found that I liked Mr. Ish-Hurwitz performance even better than Mr. Bolet's. Mr. Ish-Hurwitz's seems fresher and more spontaneous with a superb sense of drama, and with a more delicate sensitive hand during the soft moments. This recording is an absolute "MUST HAVE" even for those that have never tried Liszt, you must try this SACD. Also, the 5.0 SACD surround sound is absolutely ravishing. This performance gets 5 stars and the recording gets 5 stars as well!
