John Lennon: Sometime in New York City SHM SACD, Stereo Only.
This Japanese release is from the 12-3-2014, 7 disc series.
My I be bold enough to say I didn't like it at all.
As a collector of things my whole life, I have always been a completest and sometimes it bites me in the ass. Like this disc did. I should have previewed this recording via my Tidal streaming account and saved $30.00.
Performance: When Yoko Ono and John Lennon decide they want to record together, disaster happens for my ears. I can't stand her shrill screams. This original double LP released in 1972 was one studio and one live LP's the live recording from the Lyceum Ballroom,London in 1969, and with Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention, Fillmore East 1971. Maybe the Live Cold Turkey was the only standout for me and maybe The Luck Of The Irish as I am an a Irish American.
Stereo Sonics: Not very good. The live tracks are not originally recorded that well and the studio tracks are not at all to be compared to say, Imagine, or Mind Games.
Packaging: Great mini packaging including the double LP sleeves. Of course this is a single disc release but cool to have all original stuff. Original liner notes, cardboard gatefold holder, green disc, mini paper booklet with Japanese and English writing.
Sorry, hard to write a good review when I am not remotely enthused with the recording, so my review cannot be objective and I admit defeat.
I end with my order of preference for this 7 disc SHM SACD series 1. Being best= Imagine, Mind Games, Double Fantasy, Walls And Bridges, John Lennon/Plastic Ono, Rock N Roll, Sometime In New York City.
