In most respects I agree with Polly Nomial’s review. I will not repeat the arguments, but in summary for me this opera recording is the most charming incarnation of this masterpiece full of wonderful heartbreaking music, and full of humor and wisdom. Pavarotti in his classic role as a simple-hearted young man, and like a Hollywood-ending he captures his love at the end. I also like Malas, when he offers his false medicin.
And unforunately there are there are some distortions in louder sections. – On the other hand this re-release surpasses the former releases on digital medium concerning the SQ. It offers a more natural, analogue-like and warmer sound, more body and room. This concerns the CD- and the Blu-ray-version.
So my conclusion differs: Recommended !
