Clearly a re-issue of the old material yet the original discs are still freely available. Who's not paying attention at Sony Classical?

One good thing is this is a hybrid unlike the originals.

Simply dispensing with the "difficult" Stravinsky and Shostakovich to create a more sell-able coupling. At least that's what's going on in their minds.

I don't think they are freely available at all. Last time I checked, the originals had sold out and have both become very expensive.
I think this re-issue of the Mendelssohn from one recording AND the Brahms from another making a new bundling ... is a rather neat way to re-issue ... without actually re-issuing the original combinations, so those who were lucky enough to buy the originals still have something collectable and rare that has not been re-issued.
By my rough back of envelope calculation, it is actually in the interest of record labels to allow certain discs to run out of print ... and not re-print them. The rationale is the limited edition concept ... scarcity actually encourages present consumption etc, by extinguishing the option to buy in the future (if it sells out).

This one isn't available yet either. At least not from the usual sellers like Amazon.
Also, shouldn't the listing mention it's a DSD recording?

This one will never be available again. It was produced in 2002 and was posted because someone noted its release those many years ago.
