JPC.DE just sending annoncements that "Close to the EDGE" is no longer available from their overpriced store. I re-ordered from AMAZON.CO.UK = fingers crossed.

Don't hold your breath, Audio fidelity themselves don't even have a release date yet.

I'm not bothered too much about the wait - hopefully it'll be worth waiting for. I've just noticed though that Amazon UK have it priced at £27.50, which I'm not sure I'd like to pay. I pre-ordered mine a month ago on Amazon UK at £19.70, which for me is still a bit on the steep side. Such a pity it's not a MCH SACD release - a wasted opportunity.

I bought Fragile but it was MCH on Warner.

How frustrating that this is only stereo. Imagine CTTE on 5.1!!! Where are you Warner?

Post by Claude January 18, 2013 (8 of 205)
Fragile was remixed to multichannel in 2002 for the DVD-A reissue, Warner Japan reused that mix. That is the reason why there is a multichannel mix on the Fragile SACD. They would not have done a remix for that release alone.

"close to the Edge" is being remastered by Audio Fidelity, not by Warner. They couldn't afford a remix project, even if they were allowed to, and most of the buyers are stereo-only listeners.

Other audiophile labels are in the same situation. For the recent Dave Brubeck "Time out" SACD by Analogue Productions, the stereo layer was remastered while the existing multichannel mix was simply included as a bonus. For the new Miles Davis "In a silent way" SACD, MoFi didn't even bother to include the existing multichannel mix.

Meanwhile the Nick Cave remasters, Thick As A Brick I & II, Caravan, Gentle Giant et alia are being released on DVD~V with DTS & DD lossy 5.1 and 4.0 tracks. Aqualung was released as a lossless 5.1 blu~ray audio (provided you sprung for the Immersion box set)

They sound better than they should but why not go all the way.

You'd think with blu~ray proliferating as it is, lossless surround releases would be the norm. It's 2013, folks.

And some of them do contain 96/24 lossless stereo mixes and in some cases remixes which makes the lack of the hi~rez surround tracks even more of a mystery.

Will the Record companies ever get it right?????

Post by sylvian January 20, 2013 (10 of 205)
Record companies are often ruled by ruthless people eager for the money than for the art itself. If it were not for Robert Fripp victory over Messrs Fenwick & Alder we have never been able to put our hands not only on the 40th anniversary KC back catalogue but 30th aniversary HDCD releases at all.

With that in mind and tightening economic downturn in the whole western world I am glad for the existing collection I already own.
