I found Stephen's Classical thread quite helpful. I will take the plunge with the Rock genre.

Beck: Sea Change
Bob Dylan: The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan: Blood on the Tracks
The Who: Tommy
Ryan Adams: Gold
Creedence Clearwater Revival: Cosmo's Factory
Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon

Forget any preconceived notions you might have about Beck and buy this SACD.
All the Dylan albums are great, these are two of the best.
Tommy is especially great in MC.
Ryan Adams…this generation’s Dylan? We’ll know if 10 years or so.
A classic CCR album.
Dark Side of the Moon...see Tommy above.

Love to hear other suggestions.

Its a good list! Apart from Ziggy I would also add

The Who: My Generation

The Rolling Stones: Let It Bleed

The Rolling Stones: Beggars Banquet

Big Brother & the Holding Company: Cheap Thrills

These are all great classics and should be on the list....

You will have to add Elton John "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", a real classic in a wonderful 5.1-mix.
