I believe this performance of one of LeRoy Anderson's specialties may bring new meaning to the concept of an "original instrument" http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=G4nX0Xrn-wo&sns=em

But I imagine the soloist would sound ever so much more realistic on a multichannel sacd.

Wehecht two possibilities: Frederick Fennell conducts the music of Leroy Anderson (3 channel stereo) and Leroy Anderson: Blue Tango (multichannel)

Anderson wrote 'The Typewriter' in 1950; YouTube is not HD but the instrument on your video looks very much like my 1965 Remington portable. So not HIP. The instrument here looks more authentic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GCBJPDCUF0. The definitive performance would be the 1953 première with Anderson conducting, on Decca: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vuDMInQMYQ.

The Typewriter is a short piece (1:45), and as make-weight on a potential SACD, I would recommend Penderecki's 'Fluorescencjami / Fluorescences, for typewriter & orchestra' (14:55) http://www.last.fm/music/Krzysztof+Penderecki/_/Fluorescences+for+Orchestra and Monstersarelikethat's 'Prepared Piece for 4 typewriters' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuXJEjC1Xt8&feature=watch_response. Or 10 performances of Cage's '4:33' (43:30)-- ANYTHING to keep Anderson's 'Sleigh Ride' off the disc!

OT - Hey, Bill. Several of us have noticed your posts here. We are a small, close group of like minded Philly area hi Rez Mch aficionados and Philorch subscribers. One of us is a high official in the PA Episcopal Church. Two others are prominent recording reviewers. Please PM me. My email address is in my profile. We would like to link up and share experiences at some point. We would look forward to it.

I don't have it, but there's also a surround version on Silverline DVD-Audio conducted by Abravanel entitled "Fiddle Faddle."

I own the Silverline DVD-A, and agree that it's really quite good.

I know this is off topic (SACD) but I have been tempted by some older DVD-A's like this one when no sacd available. I have a Naxos one. It plays on my PS3 (through TV digital output to DAC) and on my laptop in Media Player. The sound to me in both cases is nearer CD quality - but original Naxos may not be that hi-res. What do others use to play DVD-A? I have stereo only so not interested in multi player/multi channel. Would Foobar with DVD-A plug in be better? Laptop handles hi-re downloads well with plug in codec.

My only option for DVD-A (hi-res) playback is via my Arcam DV137. I do have other DVD playback options available to me, but only as DVD-V (non hi-res). I believe this DVD-A is one that offers a stereo and 5.1 audio option.

Just checked my copy of Fiddle Faddle (DVD~A) and it does offer 96/24 stereo playback, as well.

I'm using the Meridian 800 for mch DVD~A playback and a Meridian 808 for hi~rez stereo DVD~A playback (does sound better than the 800 in stereo DVD~A playback).
